A Tool For People That Mean Business!

I am a consultant in Information Technology. I am currently engaged in a government contract thru a middleman, without regard to my status as a SDVOB. When I informed my middleman that I was a service disabled vet (thinking that he would score some points for hiring me), he replied "So what".

That tells me that my SDVOB status has no meaning to the government. If that is the case, then I am wasting my time pursuing opportunities as a SDVOB.

Mr. Ladson,

From you message, it appears that your approach is causing you the majority of the challenges that you are experiencing.

Try talking directly to the Customer (i.e. the Agency) and not the Middle-Man, as he/she has no incentive to become educated to your rights. More importantly, if he/she knew your rights, why would he/she share them with you?

In this arena, an uneducated subcontractor is the preferred relationship – as they are controllable & more profitable to the Prime...

On that note, why are you not a Prime Contractor on some direct opportunities?

Give that a try, before you give-up!

Thanks for your reply.

I am using www.fbo.gov as my source for leads. I have responded to several RFIs (with capability statements) but I have not had the opportunity to submit a bid yet (after 3 months).

Most opportunities are way too large for my company to handle alone, so I must seek only a piece of the action.

I am not discouraged yet, as I have only been in the game for 3 months, but I am a bit skeptical.
Mr. Ladson,

Allow me to be direct – the World is not flat...

In my opinion, your skepticism has fuelled the outcome that you are experiencing to date, as your outcome is a direct result of the way you are viewing things. The good news is that your decision to participate in this Network is a signal of your willingness to change the way you are looking at things, and therefore those things that you are looking at will change.

My recommendation is that you look into the power of SDVOSB Joint Venturing, and that you use this Network as your access point for building relationships that can help you achieve your goal. I did more than $8 Million in contracting, using the JV Business Model, and I am my no means the sharpest troop in the unit.

To achieve your desired result, it is going to require a little education on your part. But, I am confident that you can make the transition.

Let me know if I can be of assistance to you as you move through this process.
